Cooking Whole Grains in the Instant Pot

This week, I’m showing you how to cook whole grains in the Instant Pot. I love adding variety to my diet. One easy way to do that is to mix up your whole grains. Plus, the Instant Pot makes batch cooking grains so easy. You can make a big batch to keep in the fridge to use all week so you’re always ready to throw meals together quickly.

Large glass storage container with cooked whole grain barley, wheat, and sorghum

This combo of barley, wheat, and sorghum is delicious with any meal. Make grain bowls, add it to soups, bulk up your salads, or just eat it as a snack!

Instructions

  1. Rinse 2 cups of whole grains. Add grains to the inner liner of your 6 quart Instant Pot with about 6 cups of water.
  2. Add the inner liner into the cooker base, secure the lid, select “Pressure Cook,” and adjust time to 30 minutes.
  3. It will take 10 to 15 minutes to come to pressure, then after it’s done cooking allow it to natural release for at least 10 minutes before you manually release the remaining pressure.
  4. Drain any excess liquid and then enjoy your grains now or store in the fridge for up to 4 days.

This mixture does contain gluten, but if you need a gluten-free option check out my other recipe for gluten-free mixed grains in the Instant Pot.
