This week’s video is a little different. Instead of showing you a specific recipe or what I ate in a day or week, I’m showing you one of my favorite kitchen tools. The Instant Pot! I avoided the Instant Pot for a long time. I was a Crock Pot gal. But once I started eating a whole food vegan diet, I found that the Instant Pot made the food prep much easier.
The Instant Pot is great for batch cooking beans, whole grains, and potatoes. These foods form the base of my meals, so it makes meal prep easy. You can easily batch cook many potatoes without having to heat up your oven. Beans and grains are a snap in the IP. On the stovetop these items take forever and can easily cause a mess if you don’t keep your eye on the pot to avoid it boiling over. You never have to worry about any of this with the IP. You just set it and forget it!
But if you’ve never used an Instant Pot or other pressure cooker, it is a little intimidating. I had never seen how an Instant Pot works before I had one myself, so I really had no idea what to expect. And even though I had some idea about what a pressure cooker was, I still was startled by my first pressure release.
Hopefully this video will help you if you’re in the same boat. First, I give you a breakdown of all the pieces of the Instant Pot. And then I show a demonstration of how to do the recommended water test. Once you see the process from start to finish, you should feel confident in doing the test yourself.
After your test run, check out some of my Instant Pot recipes!
