minutesIngredients
2 cups water
2 medjool dates*
¼ cup walnuts plus water for soaking*
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
1 pinch cardamom
1 pinch black pepper
Directions
- Soak the walnuts overnight, or soak in hot water for about 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile add 2 cups of water and 2 medjool dates to a blender. For best results use a high speed blender.
- Once the walnuts have softened, discard the soaking liquid and add the walnuts to the blender along with all the spices.
- Blend until smooth. If using a high speed blender, you can blend continuously for about 5 minutes to heat it up. OR you can transfer the mixture to a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
- Enjoy! Feel free to top with a sprinkle of additional cinnamon.
Notes
- If using a smaller kind of date such as deglet dates, use 3 or 4.
- Feel free to swap the walnuts with any other kind of nut or seed that you might use to make plant-based milk such as almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, or hempseeds.
- As an alternative, you can also use any kind of plant-based milk you like. Instead of using 2 cups of water plus a quarter cup of nuts, use 2 cups of your favorite plant-based milk and blend with the rest of the ingredients.
