Jar on the left is oat milk. Jar on the right is almond milk.

Almond Milk

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 3 to 5 cups water

Directions

  1. Add 1 cup almonds to a bowl and cover with water and soak in the fridge overnight. Make sure they are fully submerged as they may swell a little.
  2. Drain and rinse the soaked almonds then add to your high powered blender canister.
  3. Add water and blend for about 1 minute.
  4. If you don’t want the pulp, pour the mixture into a nutmilk bag over a large bowl. You can gently squeeze the bag to get the most almond milk out.
  5. You can save the pulp to use in recipes (search online for ideas) or compost the pulp.
  6. Use immediately or store in the fridge 3 to 5 days. Discard if the smell of the milk changes from when it was first made.

Oat Milk

Ingredients

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 3 cups cold (refrigerated) water

Directions

  1. Add water and oats to blender canister. Be sure to use really cold water, this will help to keep the milk from becoming “gummy” or “gritty.”
  2. Blend for no more than 30 seconds.
  3. If you don’t want the pulp, pour the mixture into a nutmilk bag over a large bowl. I also place a colander on top of the bowl to lay the nutmilk bag on. Do not squeeze the bag as this may create an unpleasant texture in the oatmilk. Instead, let the bag sit and drain over the bowl.
  4. Feel free to strain the milk a second time for a better texture.
  5. You can save the pulp to use in recipes (search online for ideas) or compost the pulp.
  6. Use immediately or store in the fridge 3 to 5 days. Discard if the smell of the milk changes from when it was first made.
